Dapoxetine is a type of medicine called an SSRI (selective selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor) and a long lasting inhibitor. It prevents a medicine from being made by stopping taking, which means the medicine will be made longer. The medicine is also called a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor or SSRI.
Dapoxetine is also known by its brand name Dapoxetol. It’s a common brand name for the medicine, which is the generic name of a drug called Priligy.
Dapoxetine was first marketed under the name Priligy in 2003. In 2018, it’s changed to the full name Dapoxetol.
This medicine is a type of medicine called an SSRI (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor). This medicine stops taking, or the medicine (which is made by stopping taking) by increasing the levels of a chemical called serotonin in the brain. This helps to increase the amount of serotonin a person’s brain can use to make more information.
The SSRI Priligy is only made by stopping Priligy. It’s not used to treat premature ejaculation (PE) or post menopause (PC) premature ejaculation. Priligy does not prevent PE.
Dapoxetine is also known to work on other medical conditions too.

Drug regulators in Singapore have approved the first prescription-only medication for premature ejaculation, Priligy, which is designed to improve control over ejaculation and delay ejaculation, in the country.
The new approval will follow the recommendation of the Singapore National Drug Authority (NDA) for approval of the drug, but the drug’s maker has said it is not clear when it will make its first clinical trial.
Preliminary studies found it increased the time taken to ejaculate and reduced the time to ejaculation, which is the time a man has to ejaculate and will be known as “roximately ejaculation.”
Preliminary results suggest that Priligy, which is sold under the brand name Dapoxetine, could potentially delay ejaculation and help men maintain their sexual relationships in a more satisfactory way.
The drug was initially approved in the UK in September 2019 for treatment of depression. A similar drug, Seroxat, was first approved for treatment of premature ejaculation in the US in July 2017.
Preliminary data from two studies suggest that it could also help men who ejaculate less often and who are not able to have regular sexual intercourse for extended periods.
The first study, conducted in Singapore in January 2020, included men who had had sex for a minimum of 3 months. Participants received a tablet of Priligy (dapoxetine) or a placebo for up to 18 months.
Results showed that Priligy increased the time taken to ejaculation and reduced the time to ejaculation, which is the time the man has to ejaculate and will be known asroximately ejaculation.
The second study, conducted in Singapore in March 2021, was more scientifically rigorous and showed that Priligy increased the time to ejaculation and reduced the time to ejaculation in men who had sex for the first time.
The results from both trials showed that Priligy could delay ejaculation for most men, but men who were not able to have regular sex for extended periods could still get a satisfying orgasm.
The study involved 12 men with premature ejaculation who had sex for less than a month.
The drug is approved for treatment of premature ejaculation in Singapore and is being studied in two other countries: the UK and the US. The new approval follows an earlier one from the FDA for the drug and it is the first drug for which it is being studied.
The new drug is expected to be available through pharmacies in the first quarter of 2022.
Dapoxetine is only available through the pharmacy benefit manager (PBM) Drugs. It should not be available to patients who cannot access their prescription medication because they are eligible for the drug.“Priligy is a treatment for premature ejaculation and should only be used under the supervision of a healthcare professional. We are committed to making it easier for patients to have their medications prescribed to them, and we are also committed to providing access to this highly effective and widely used treatment in this country,” said Dr Andrew Witty, president of Drugs.gov, in a statement.
“Priligy is the first of a new class of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI) and will be available in Singapore at the same time as Dapoxetine, a first-line treatment for premature ejaculation,” added Dr Witty.
The new approval is also being developed by the company that manufactures Priligy. It is the first drug to be approved for the treatment of premature ejaculation.“Priligy is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI), which means it increases the levels of serotonin in the brain. This is the most widely used treatment for premature ejaculation and has shown promise in delaying ejaculation,” Dr Witty said.
“Our hope is that this first-in-class treatment will provide patients with a safe and effective treatment option, allowing them to have regular sexual intercourse and enjoy sexual satisfaction in a more satisfactory way,” added Dr Witty.
